                                                                Chapter 192 Services

       Compensatory Education

Communication (reading and/or writing) and Computation (math) are two remedial programs.  Student eligibility is determined by standardized test scores.  Results are measured according to the Minimal Levels of Proficiency (MLPs) established by the NJDOE.  An individual student improvement plan is developed for each eligible student who then receives individualized, small-group instruction from NJDOE certified teachers.

English as a Second Language (ESL)

ESESL is a developmental language program for students with limited English proficiency.  An eligible student receives instruction in listening, comprehension, speaking, reading, and writing in English.  A native language other than English and below-standard scores in English proficiency qualifies a student for instruction.

    Home Instruction

A student can receive individual instruction in lieu of regular classroom instruction, if he or she has a medical determination stating that illness or injury prevents the student from attending school for ten consecutive school days.

       Chapter 193 Services

     Child Study Team Assessment

ESU provides assessments to identify a student’s educational needs and services as determined by an evaluation plan.  A student is eligible for these services when it is determined that the student has one or more disabilities as defined by N.J.A.C. 6A:14-3.5 and when the disability adversely affects the student’s educational performance.

    Supplemental Instruction

Students with disabilities are eligible to receive supplementary instruction that complements regular classroom instruction.  The ESU teacher follows the student’s Individual Services Plan (ISP) which indicates the areas for instruction.

    Speech and Language Services

A student may be eligible for speech and/or language therapy if the student meets eligibility requirements as determined by N.J.A.C. 6A:14.  A speech-language specialist provides therapy based on the identified areas of need reflected in the student’s ISP.
